The renovation project will involve modernization of all the 900 guest rooms of the New York Palace. Northwood Hospitality bought the hotel in mid-2011.

In the initial phase, the 176 Towers rooms and suites will be given a makeover beginning mid-2012. These are the hotel’s highest priced rooms and start from a minimum area of 600 square feet. Plans call for the rooms to be restored to Five Diamond status, a title that the hotel had earlier earned in 2002. The remaining guest rooms will receive makeovers beginning early 2013, as reported in USA Today.

Design features of the new hotel will blend a contemporary look with touches of the past. San Francisco-based design firm BAMO will act as the designer for the makeover. Northwood plans to use a mix and match style for the furniture in the rooms instead of a completely matching palette.
