The centre is the first acute care facility in the state to bag the certification with an expanded adult emergency room, and a new pediatric emergency room and pediatric in-patient wing. Among the other features of the hospital include 50 new patient rooms which are all private, eight new operating rooms as well as new garage with a capacity of 1600.
The facility incorporates a host of green features such as a living roof spanning 16,700 square feet substituting the conventional asphalt roof. It has been equipped with a high-performance HVAC system, chillers and chiller plant controls and a dehumidification system which reaps energy savings of 18-20%. Use of LED lighting fixtures in the operating rooms further reduces energy consumption by 90%.
The building has been fitted with low flow fixtures which, along with use of native plantings, lead to a reduction in water usage by 33%. Other sustainable features include recycling of 93.3% of construction debris, and use of reclaimed materials which includes batteries and 87% of the steel used in the centre.
