The Sky Cottage is a 2,500 square feet residence for a couple occupying a tiny, pie-shaped site offering views of the Mississippi River.
Yoakum who also owns the house, has conceived the house as a modern structure with a design that responds to both the neighborhood and its primary asset, an unobstructed view of the Mississippi River.
The design is composed of two components; a white-brick cube and an elevated box. The white-brick cube aligns itself with the established streetscape of row houses. The elevated box is designed to resist this grid of houses. The home’s upper levels are designed to offer a focused and remarkable view of the river.
