AIA Memphis honored archimania at 2010 Design Awards function at Opera Memphis on March 20, 2010. archimania transformed a bland, 1991-built insurance office building into a sleek, light-filled space for Tabor Orthopedics.
The new design features fresh and efficient use of space, taking full advantage of natural light through existing window openings. The design approach has incorporated creative architectural way-finding devices through color and material selection. Located in a busy commercial area, the clinic houses administrative space, exam rooms, doctors’ offices, and shared public areas.
archimania has integrated a few exterior upgrades including a new canopy and drop-off area for patients, view gardens for the waiting area, enlarged windows, and new signage. The project is an example of adaptive reuse.
Archimania has also received two merit awards for new construction. One is for its Orange House residence, and the other for the Wurzburg Retreat house.
Established in 1953, AIA Memphis has served West Tennessee as the local chapter of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) for almost 55 years.
