Located on west campus, the graduate student housing project will replace 240 units of the Hawkeye Court complex built during the 1960’s. The new development will consist of five, three-storey buildings totaling 265,600 square feet. Targeting Iowa’s more than 9,500 graduate students, as well as faculty, the new facilities will feature 270 one- and two-bedroom units.
Additionally, a separate one-storey 5,400-square-foot community centre will be built to house the property management offices and common spaces for resident use, including a fitness centre, laundry facility, multipurpose space, and access to the campus shuttle service.
The project will break ground for the construction in the later part of June 2013, and is scheduled to open in August 2014.
