La Terrasse has been created adjacent to La Rotonde. The new structure that is made of 17 panes of glass has received the approval of the Historic Monuments Commission. La Terrasse has been designed to accentuate the original La Rotonde structure and replaced a previous terrace that extended the historic space.

Through stratigraphy, a process that carefully removes each layer of paint applied over the years, the original colours on its walls have been restored. The original details of the room’s fresco have also been brought back. The original Gobelin carpets are also repaired.

The Historic Monuments Commission approved the plan under the stipulation that the glass structure highlights the original La Rotonde façade and the venture is designed as a modern expansion of the hotel’s structural history.

Thirteen large glass panes, each weighing 2,134 pounds, and four smaller ones, each weighing 924 pounds, were installed in a circular form along the length of the space. The roof itself contains more than 16 tons of triple-paned glass.

The Beau-Rivage Palace hotel was opened in 1861 and the current main building was constructed in Art Déco and neo-baroque style in 1908. The project that involved numerous specialists such as restorers, painters, tinsmiths, carpenters, metal-workers and statigraphers have restored La Rotonde’s original colours, fresco and fittings. The project complied with the strict regulations required by its heritage status.
