Bowlmor Lanes, which has been in continuous operation since 1938, will open its newest flagship site, spanning 90,000 square feet, in the former New York Times building on West 44th Street in Times Square, New York on October 2010.
The company plans to operate a 50 lane bowling alley, featuring seven distinct dining and bowling areas, each themed to represent iconic places in New York City such as Chinatown, Central Park, Soho, Tribeca, Times Square, and the subway system. The unique history and culture behind each place will be highlighted. The city’s best graffiti artists will provide the wall art. The lobby’s walls will be adorned with New York City skyline.
Plans for Bowlmor Lanes at Times Square include an 18 feet bowling pin in its entrance, decorated by local artists. The front desk area will be designed in antique luxury hotel style, complete with a concierge and shoe shining service.
Design plans for the space also include Warhol-inspired artwork, a Brooklyn Bridge-inspired stairway, and other details that pay homage to the city of New York. The venue features a 180-plus person dining area. A performance space that will accommodate live acts on a nightly basis is also featured.
The midtown venue will be the seventh national location for Bowlmor Lanes, who has properties in Long Island, Bethesda Maryland, Miami Florida, Orange County California and Silicon Valley California.
