The new CTRB building has been equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and houses treatment areas for cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, blindness and hemophilia.
The building spanning 700,000 square feet encompasses four new laboratory floors, administration and conference space, and a two-story ground floor housing a lobby and cafeteria. An additional four stories are featured below ground, accommodating infrastructure and laboratory support space. The facility has also been awarded LEED-Silver certification for incorporating green features.
The new facility forms part of the CHOP’s South Campus expansion scheme. This South Campus expansion adjoins the University of Pennsylvania Health System’s construction of the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and Roberts Proton Therapy Center.
The building was built with a $25 million grant from Tristram Colket, a Campbell Soup Co. heir and a Children’s board member, and his family. The rest of the money came from a $100 million bond issue and existing funds at Children’s.
