The renovation includes a significant expansion of the electronics department along with the addition and return of nearly 9,000 products through all the departments in the store. Another new feature will be the use of a lower shelf profile, which will make items easier to reach.
New fixtures, new non-slide, high polished floors and new checkout systems will also be part of the improvements. The photo department will be transformed to a dry lab system, which obviates the need for a chemical based development processes currently in place.
Several of the checkout lines have been shortened to make room for a more open centre aisle at the front of the store. Self checkout on the west side checkouts has been reduced and two more belted checkouts to be attended by cashiers have been added.
The Walmart store is also implementing the sandwich bale style of recycling which would help in capturing the store’s recyclable materials. The renovation is expected to complete by 20 May 2011.
