The new five-storey, 110,000 square foot Teaching and Learning Center for Health Sciences will be built near the intersection of LeConte and Tiverton avenues. Besides expanding the school’s educational programs and improving teaching and learning, the new building will also consolidate some of the medical school’s 11 teaching facilities throughout South Campus.

The building would be designed to foster team-based approaches to medical care. It will feature technology-enabled classrooms to facilitate active learning, a clinical skills training centre, and innovative and flexible teaching labs that promote collaboration and interaction. It will also feature spaces for students to relax, room for student organisations to meet, and offices for admissions, financial aid, student affairs and other student services.

Construction of the Teaching and Learning Center is scheduled to begin in September 2013, and is expected to be completed in 2016. UCLA will also target LEED certification for the building. The project would be funded by the UCLA Health System reserves and philanthropic gifts.
