Designed by Paramus-based Schier & Lesser Architecture Studio, the project is due to commence in August 2012 and be completed in eight months. The 55-year-old building spans 5,426 square feet. It sports a locker room, a break room, offices, a room with water telemetry equipment, four-capacity garage space, and a 1,815 square feet mechanic shop.
The new building will cover an area of nearly 13,700 square feet which will include a mezzanine. It will face Thomas McGinnis Memorial Way as against the old building which faces Oak Street. The new structure will comprise a brick veneer, some stucco and corrugated metal panels.
The garage will undergo an expansion as part of the project and will be constructed 25 feet closer to Oak Street. It will have a capacity to accommodate double the number of vehicles. The mezzanine, offering map storage space, will consist of one-hour fire-rated walls to ensure security of the documents. There will now be more room for tools and landscaping equipment while a portion of the building will be used for storing paving equipment which is presently stored in a small garage, as reported by northjersey.com.
The revamped facility will be energy-independent. It roof will be pitched toward the south to allow installation of solar panels in the future. Further, the design of the facility will offer maximum natural light penetration which in turn will reap energy cost cuts.
