Erick van Egeraat has designed the stadium complex scheme in association with Russian architect Mikhail Posokhin. The jury commended the design for its ‘all-under-one-roof’ concept.
The Dynamo Stadium redevelopment forms a part of the 300,000 square meters VTB Arena Park project, which is designed as a multifunctional culture, health and sports center. Erick van Egeraat has proposed a 45,000-seat Stadium Arena for Dynamo Moscow, a 10,000-seat Arena Hall, retail and entertainment complex, restaurants, parking and other facilities, within the facade of the 1928-opened existing building. Placing of these two stadiums within the ring of the old stadium helps in preserving the original facade and the existing green space.
The existing park will be completely preserved as a public and green area. Parking facilities will be included underground, and horeca and sports training facilities will be included above ground, with the park continuing over the roof of these functions.
The stadium has been designed in compliance with the FIFA regulations, allowing the stadium to play a significant role in Russia’s ambitions to host the 2018 FIFA world cup. The scheme is funded by EUR500 million ($626.6 million) investment from VTB Bank.
