The renovation project, which aims to be certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system from the U.S. Green Building Council, include environmental friendly features like solar panels and a recycling system for storm water. The 30,000 square feet City Hall will be partly demolished while the rest of it will be remodeled.
The project also hopes to improve and upgrade accessibility, heating and cooling systems, and technology of the hall. The officials of the City Hall expect a saving of about $9 million in operating costs over the next 20 years as a result of the renovations.
The new building is expected to reach completion by 2010.
