The 220-bed hospital will be part of Connexion, an integrated six-storey podium and two 20-storey wings housing healthcare and hospitality complex comprising 189-consultation suite Farrer Park Medical Centre; Farrer Park Hospital; 230-room One Farrer luxury hotel; and Owen Link, a ground-floor retail arcade. The integrated complex is developed by Singapore HealthPartners (SHP), a group of private medical specialists and selected foreign investors.
The hospital is being built above the Farrer Park MRT station. It features 11 operating theatres, three day surgery units with a total of 60 attached beds, a 23-bed Intensive Care Unit with state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging services, three endoscopy rooms, a radiotherapy department, clinical laboratories, a full-service pharmacy and the most advanced implementation of hospital information technology.
The hospital is designed to include various synergistic facilities that will allow healthcare delivery processes to be redesigned for greater patient comfort at lower costs. Patients will have access to a private lift and separate entry to wards and X-ray rooms to avoid bumping into hotel guests or visitors to the hospital. In addition to being responsive to patients’ needs, environment-sensitive design elements have also been incorporated into the facility.
The construction is contracted to and led by Samsung C&T Corporation, which was also involved with Burj Khalifa project in Dubai. Singapore-listed construction group Tiong Seng Contractors will be the joint venture partner on the project.
The contract for the hospital project was awarded in August 2010, with construction underway since early November 2010.
