Body Lawson Associates has designed the 62,000 square feet apartment complex in accordance with environmentally conscious development standards. All the residences are designed to accommodate Aging in Place seniors and the spaces will be handicap-accessible. The seventh floor will feature a terrace and planted green roof for residents to enjoy.
Rainwater harvesting system will be installed to channel water from the roof into storage tanks. This water will be used for irrigation, reducing utility costs and storm-water run-off. The project exceeds the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Green Affordable Housing Program and Enterprise Green Communities’ guidelines for environmental responsibility and is expected to achieve LEED- Silver Certification. Other green design features of the building include high-performance mechanical systems and equipment, non-toxic and recycled interior finishes and materials, natural day lighting, and solar shading.
Ground was broken for Erbograph Apartments in early June 2010. Developed by the Jonathan Rose Companies, the eight-story, 65-unit green affordable housing development for seniors is scheduled for late 2011 completion.
The Erbograph Apartments are located on a city-owned site which was formerly occupied by an abandoned film storage warehouse known as the Erbograph building.
