Following on from the success of Electromax and the uptake of solar thermal water heating, Heatrae Sadia has designed and manufactured Electromax Solar. This convenient package, available in 185, 220 and 250 litre capacities, comprises an Amptec electric central heating boiler, an unvented Duplex domestic stainless steel cylinder with a purpose designed solar coil for maximum heat input and efficiency, solar hydraulic and electronic controls, an LCD display panel and expansion vessels to provide solar thermal water heating and an electric wet central heating. For ease of installation, the product also includes primary solar system fluid and all the necessary connecting pipe work to link the cylinder to the solar collectors.

With all components being fully integrated into the unit, installations are quicker and neater, and the clear, multifunctional and easy-to-use control panel make Electromax easy to configure and ensures end user convenience. Electromax Solar can be used with flat plate, in-roof or on-roof solar collectors or evacuated tubes, making it suitable for a large range of domestic properties in the UK. The system enables specifiers to solve many electric SAP calculation dilemmas. For example, in a typical two bedroom flat with a Target Emissions Rating, or TER, of 32.07: installing a typical electric boiler and unvented cylinder would give a score of 35.81, which is a fail. However, specifying a new ElectroMax Solar system with an appropriate solar collector brings that

down to 30.43, which passes.

Robin Wood, head of Heatrae Sadia’s electrical division, said: “In modern apartments or in rural areas mains gas is sometimes an impractical or unavailable option, so installers might need to look to electricity to provide heating and hot water. This can pose issues for installers when trying to meet the Government’s SAP targets.

Although electric products are highly efficient at the point of use, they do not achieve particularly high SAP ratings because of the way electricity is generated in the UK via coal-fire power stations. Electromax Solar utilises renewable energy from the sun, meaning SAP targets can be met more easily.” ElectroMax Solar will join Heatrae Sadia’s range of solar thermal hot water cylinders, comprising the Megaflo Solar (unvented) and Megalife Solar (vented) which are available in a range of capacities and are suitable for use with flat plate collectors or evacuated tubes.
