Hoag Memorial undertook $84 million renovation of the structure and converted it into a new state-of-the-art, acute-care facility with 154 beds. Hoag Hospital Irvine features four new operating rooms, three enhanced operating rooms, new radiology and laboratory equipment, two catheterization labs, and new cardiac monitoring systems.

The revamp scheme involved a meticulous process that included more than 80 community focus groups, to create the right ambience for the new hospital. The project has taken into account the sentiments of various cultural groups that are likely to use the hospital’s services.

The revamp process has taken care to avoid creating a cold, sterile environment that offers a typical hospital setting. The new facility displays chic, earth-toned décor and a harpist in the atrium. Throughout the hospital, nature photographs submitted by residents are featured offering a colourful background. The nursing pods are designed to reduce noise.

The renovation was inevitable, as the previous facility lacked Hoag’s standards for care.
