The tower is being developed by Skanska USA. The construction costs of the project are estimated at $34 million with an additional $35 million required for installation of advanced equipment. The facility will cover an area of 156,000 square feet housing 16 operating suites. All the suites will be 30% more spacious and will be equipped with new technology. The building will also comprise 48 beds for pre- and post-operative care, as well as a satellite pharmacy.
The tower will be fitted with LED surgical lighting to enhance visibility levels while generating low heat. It will incorporate high-definition monitors measuring 55 inches, as well as anesthesia equipment mounted on ceiling booms to open up floor area. There will also be video monitors mounted on ceiling booms to enable surgeons view scans while staying in proximity to the patient. Further, the facility will install an Artis zeego single-plane robotic imaging system to offer real-time internal imaging at the time of surgery.
The facility imbibes several green features such as an energy-saving central sterilization unit comprising steam cleaners. Energy consumption is further reduced with installation of automation control system for HVAC and lighting.
The facility consists of a high-performance landscaping and stormwater management system which leads to a fall in water usage. Use of low-VOC paint, adhesives, and sealants adds to its sustainability. Other green features include reclaiming 50% of construction debris, and incorporation of bicycle storage area.
Work is due for completion by mid-2013.
