The contract involves construction of five-story, 119,392 feet building with an attached 161,259 feet parking space.

The planned new Public Safety Center in 6.7 acre will house the City of El Cajon Police Department. The lower two levels of the building will incorporate 12 detention cells, evidence storage space, and an indoor shooting range.

The next two levels will have administrative offices, an emergency operations center and communication center, and the top level will accommodate crime scene investigation laboratories.

The money generated from a half-cent sales tax increase that was approved by El Cajon voters in 2004, will be used to finance the project.

Construction will start in May 2009 and is scheduled to reach completion by May 2011.
