Designed by MGE Architects of Coral Gables, the new patient tower would be built off Bass Road and would be attached to the pediatric oncology wing of the children’s hospital. The new patient tower is proposed to have 225,000 square feet with 101 new children’s beds, freeing up 45 beds for adults at HealthPark. The five-floor facility would house a pharmacy, day hospital and conference rooms for teaching. The cost is expected to be $200 million.

The exterior of the building would feature a glass-front building with a nautical theme with the look of sails, water falls, and colored glass and bubbles, which would appeal to children and nurture a healing environment. The plan includes a playground that can be used by children of all ages and capabilities.

The current 105-bed children’s hospital, which is designated by the state as a regional hospital, serves the five-county region of Lee, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Charlotte counties and has been facing a bed crunch for some time. The new five-story design would enable the hospital to address future growth with the fifth floor being left as shell space.
