The proposed renovation in the near future will include an overall cosmetic facelift of existing hospital facilities by the upgradation of paint, carpet and many other aesthetics of the hospital.
It will feature the Ambulatory Surgery Center. The 18,000 square feet shell for this facility already exists beneath the “West Building” Emergency Department/Trauma Center addition. The construction of the centre is expected to start during 2013.
In addition to that four stories will be added to the existing West Building, while Family Birthing/NICU will relocate to this new facility. The facility will feature 60 private patient rooms.
A several-storey structure with adjoining parking ramp will be located between the “West Building” and Seventh St. The Medical Office Building (MOB) will house MGH employed physicians and some patient services.
The hospital will utilize existing physician offices at the Upper Peninsula Medical Center for non-clinical departments and services. Furthermore, radiation oncology, infusion services and oncologist offices will be located in the 1984 Building, creating a unified cancer center.
Apart from that the patient units in the 1981 Building will be renovated, redesigned and transformed for private patient rooms. The design of the private patient rooms in the 1981 tower will mirror those in the West Building addition.
