Meyer & Meyer provided complete architectural services for the renovation of the English Rose Estate – a 1929-built three-story, 18,000 square feet, and symmetrical red brick Georgian Revival Estate. The scope of work included the complete interior rebuilding of two-thirds of the house to create a new master suite, a third floor bedroom suite, a new entry, reception halls, and construction of a new main stair. A limestone portico was also added on the west elevation of the house with a balustrade railing at the second floor terrace.
The historic home reflects a European-inspired taste. As the house was originally built using the best available materials, it was important that skilled craftsmen and artists replicate and expand on the authentic details of the home’s former glory.
Interior finishes are selected in the spirit of French Rococo. Architectural elements are finished in three different gold leafs: 15 karat, 18 karat and 23 karat. The remodeled house is adorned with custom millwork including coffered ceilings, rooms featuring hand-carved brackets, pediments, chair rails, dados and picture rails. The grand staircase features limestone with a custom bronze railing and a hand-crafted, sculptured and illuminated feature at its end. The master bath features a rotunda adorned with paintings of the changing seasons. A large closet with velvet-lined shelves is featured behind each painting.
