Architectural and engineering designs will be carried out by the engineering and construction firm STV which also involves building information modeling (BIM).The three-storey depot spanning over an area of 400,000-square-foot will accommodate diesel-fuel buses along with maintenance areas and an administrative wing.
The company will also design alternates to decrease the height of the new facility retaining its programming space. In addition to that, a green roof will be constructed to reduce the building’s carbon footprint with the inclusion of a rainwater collection system to collect storm water for depot operations like bus washing.
Post refurbishment, the building will house bus parking and employee parking inside the facility, cutting down the chances of any effect on street parking for the neighbourhood.
The authority is presently pursing LEED certification for the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot site which was formerly used as a two-story trolley barn. Silverite Construction is undertaking this project.
