Mubadala has revamped the original plans which contained a 17,000-seat arena and other large structures. The new design features low-rise buildings, restaurants and residential apartments. Located at the Mina Zayed port facing Lulu Island, the scheme offers views of the Corniche and the Gulf.
The revised design scheme retains the signature cylindrical building designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Vinoly at the center of the project. The scheme proposes a motorized canopy that will rotate around the building, providing a continuous shade. The center part of the building is designed as the most active space and the most significant part of the project. The building will house three hotels – the Bellagio, Skylofts and MGM Grand from the MGM Mirage portfolio. The remaining buildings will be limited to ten stories.
Mubadala is the strategic investment arm of the Abu Dhabi Government. The company is responsible for the development of a 150-acre waterfront site at Mina Zayed, which will provide the city with world-class leisure and entertainment facilities. The scheme is undertaken as part of the Abu Dhabi 2030: Urban Structure Framework Plan.
