According to athletic director Pete Boone, the concept which is still in the initial stage, is considering combining the need for a new arena and assembly centre with a new recreation centre and dining hall. In addition to housing the new recreation centre and dining needs, a new arena can also host entertainment and student assemblies.
Boone added that the university’s master plan has indicated that a new recreation centre could be built close to the current Turner Center within the next five to six years.
The project could be jointly funded by the athletic department and the university. Tad Smith Coliseum, the Rebels’ current home opened in 1966 and seats 9,061.
