The new airport will take the place of the current Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Chaklala. The new facility will be located on more than 3600 acre-area. It will comprise a contemporary advanced passenger terminal building, control tower, and runway along with a secondary runway provision. Among the various other features of the airport are taxiways, apron, cargo complex, and hangar, as well as ancillary amenities.
The new airport will be designed to serve the latest generation of modern passenger aircraft. It will don a modular style and will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 6.5 million. The new airport will also have the capacity to handle 80,000 metric tonnes of cargo per year.
