The facility covers an area of about 10,000 square feet. It dons a contemporary style with a glass and steel structure. The interior of the building is adorned with a brick fireplace as well as luxurious couches formed of leather. It features the Acorn Room, a café, and a reception hall with a seat capacity of 160.
The new facility forms part of the first phase of the $200 million renovation of Assiniboine Park Conservancy. The same phase also included creation of a nature playground and the duck pond expansion. The second phase of the project will overhaul the zoo, new exhibits, and various amenities to serve visitors. Phase III will develop the new Assiniboine Park Conservatory & Conference Centre in the park’s south east segment.
The project has received contributions of $3 million from the Hastings family and $3.8 million from the City of Winnipeg.
