The project, which commenced in 2010, will expand the library from 34,500 to 47,300 square feet. The former annex building will be transformed into the Children’s Department and linked to the main building. The expanded library will also allow room for a new area dedicated for teenagers. The programme and meeting space will be increased by 50% following the expansion. The Genealogy room will be remodeled and expanded.
The expanded property will consolidate all services on one floor, while sporting expanded aisles and upgraded restrooms accessible to the disabled. There will also be creation of a centralized circulation desk, and a new parking area. Further, the property will be equipped with a new HVAC unit which runs low on energy usage.
Bulk of the project has been financed through $5.533 million in recovery zone economic bonding authority granted to Adams County. The project also received a state grant of $125,000.
