The new GBP25 million ($37.7 million approx) University Centre for higher education is a white ceramic clad building spanning 7000 square meters. The new center is intended to serve as the flagship for the redevelopment of the institute’s Nuns Corner campus.
The white ceramic granite cladding of the building will reflect the colors and shapes of the adjacent mature trees and plants. The internal accommodation and primary circulation wrap around a grand five-story central atrium space, covered by a curved 580 square meter roof light. It includes state-of-the-art lecture theaters, research facilities, clinical skills room, laboratories for science and sports physiology, computer suites, studios for television and radio broadcast and a fully licensed bar with food outlets.
The University Centre project is being funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and UK’s regional economic development agency Yorkshire Forward. The project has gone out to tender for a construction contract.
