The plan has been commissioned by Vietnami IT and telecommunications company FPT. Spanning an area of over 180 hectares, the plan incorporates a series of distinct districts including a Town Centre, a Business District and a series of residential neighbourhoods. The plan also incorporates a new university campus for FPT University that would specialise in information technology, software development and e-services; a research institute and training centre for FPT employees.
SOM’s Masterplan is based on the cultural landscape and urban heritage of Danang. The plan integrates future development within a unique landscape setting besides essential community amenities. The plan aims to serve a future urban population in excess of 30,000 people.
The complete urban living environment would feature a range of housing types integrated with schools, kindergartens, healthcare clinics, sports and other public facilities. A riverfront harbour featuring a civic piazza and a meeting space for the new community is a key feature of the plan.
The Masterplan is designed to reinforce the local green character of Danang. The vision incorporates a series of expansive linear greenways for recreation and stormwater management. This stormwater management would assist in managing flood control, preventing rainwater runoff into surrounding areas, filtering and cleansing grey water and providing a source for irrigating future landscape areas. The greenways would link each neighborhood directly to a revitalised riverfront. The heart of each urban district and residential area would feature new public spaces.
FPT City is also envisioned to promote a diverse living community with integrated local services. The services can be accessed via sheltered and shaded walkable streets. The plan incorporates a wide network of smart infrastructure along with a web of natural greenways.
The design also features a strategic regional river corridor initiative to be implemented between Danang and the tourist destination Hoi An. This would be achieved by establishing a new riverfront eco-park. The waterfront park engages a large lake that exists at the river’s edge. It will be designed to protect the wildlife habitat along its length and around the lake’s perimeter.
