President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated the IDR285 billion ($26.2 million) Terminal 3 for domestic flights at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on April 28, 2009.

The new terminal features a glass-clad façade entirely different from the red brick-buildings at Terminal 1 and 2.

The glass facades will absorb sunlight, resulting in reduced needs for electricity consumption for lighting. The building materials used for construction are expected to soften noise and vibrations from aircraft engines. The interior design of the airport also features fashionable elements such as ethnic symbols.

The building spans a total area of 30,000 square meters with car parks, and one pier for parking aircraft. The terminal is designed to accommodate four million passengers per annum with associated parking spaces for 400 cars and 200 motorcycles.

Terminal 3 is expected to get some more additions including four more piers, each capable of accommodating four million passengers, bringing the total capacity of Terminal 3 up to 20 million passengers per year.
