The South Adams K-8th grade school was Indiana’s first new construction project using the design-build delivery method and is being recognised as one of the most energy-efficient K-12 school buildings in the state.
Various green features were incorporated in the school to earn the award. The school features a highly efficient mechanical-electrical-plumbing (MEP) design. Additional features include energy-efficient lighting, occupancy sensors, a white reflective roof and natural daylight features.
With annual BTU usage of 56,000 for the entire building, South Adams was found to be 30% more efficient than the average school building in the state of Indiana and in the top 5% of ENERGY STAR-certified K-12 buildings in the US.
Comprising a 21st century technology, the South Adams building includes a wireless campus, one-to-one computer access, and technology tools integrated into each classroom for teachers to collaborate and engage students. It also provides a high speed network with video surveillance.
Indianapolis-based construction services firm Performance Services undertook the construction of the project.
