The playing fields at Bellevue Oval will be resurfaced by SportUNE, in order to make the grounds suitable for sport at the elite level. It is aimed at the future prospect of hosting some bigger games in future.
The new to-be-installed turf will be better suited to Armidale’s winter climate. It will require less watering and provide better drainage. The new turf comprising a strong couch grass base will be over-sown with rye grass, which is tolerable to short cutting for soccer fixtures.
The project can be materialised thanks to a large donation to the UNE from an anonymous source. This grant will cover a significant proportion of its total cost.
SportUNE operates 15 hectares of playing fields incorporating three rugby union/rugby league fields, five soccer fields, Bellevue Cricket Ground, Bellevue Sports Grandstand, two plexipave netball courts, one AFL ground, Brian Seppelt Playing Field, BBQ and picnic facilities, extensive carparks, Bellevue Pavilion, and Consett Davis amenities block.
