The extension scheme commenced in 2009, and the 6,500 square meters tennis facility was unveiled on April 18, 2010. The improved Tennis Ballarat now features 12 indoor courts.
The first phase of the renovation scheme included addition of six synthetic grass courts; resurfacing of the six existing courts; new net posts and nets; and walkways between courts and curtain fencing to divide the courts. The second phase undertook upgrading of public spaces; addition of a new members’ lounge; Ballarat’s largest tennis pro shop courtside café and viewing area; member’s gymnasium; play area for children; and a pro shop and a refurbished foyer. Creation of a mezzanine level member’s lounge is still under consideration.
Southern Indoor Tennis and Fitness is a professional sports center that has been owned and operated by Ballarat since it opened in 1991.
