Organised by the Passivhaus Trust (PHT), the awards aims to highlight the achievements of the Passivhaus pioneers and showcase the application of Passivhaus to create beautiful buildings.

This year, eight projects from three categories have been shortlisted. A variety of projects from different and challenging contexts were able to achieve the Passivhaus standard and enhance the internal environments of the occupiers. Projects from this year’s shortlist have also broken the Passivhaus stereotype and include schemes designed in Conservation areas, using innovative construction techniques.

In the Private Housing category, sponsored by Ecology Building Society, the shortlist includes Crossway, Richard Hawkes Architecture; Plummerswood, Gaia Architects; and Totnes Passivhaus, Passivhaus Homes Ltd.

In the Social Housing category, sponsored by Kingspan, the shortlist includes Ditchingham Passivhaus, Parsons & Whittley; Lancaster Cohousing Project, Eco Arc Architects; and Racecourse Passivhaus Bungalows, Gentoo. Non-domestic category, sponsored by Munster Joinery, features Green Base, Simmonds Mills Architects; and Canolfan Hyddgen, JPW Construction.

The winners will be announced on 4 July 2013 at an awards ceremony to be held at the Residence of the Austrian Ambassador in London.

The Passivhaus Trust was launched in the UK in October 2010. Affiliated with the Passivhaus Institut in Germany via the International Passive House Association (iPHA), the Trust is a not-for-profit organisation which will focus on research, education and policy campaigns around the application of Passivhaus in the UK.
