The facility, originally constructed in 1915, accommodates admissions, external relations, the Office of Community Engagement, and the Center for Small Towns. It incorporates a host of green features including wind turbines and a biomass facility which meets its electricity, heating, and cooling needs. It has also been equipped with chilled beams to cool the building. Further, the lobby of the facility sports an energy kiosk displaying the energy performance of the campus in real time.
The design of the revamped structure optimises natural light penetration throughout, thereby reaping energy cost cuts. Use of reclaimed material throughout adds to the sustainability. The landscaping of the building has been designed to reduced energy usage which, coupled with other measures, reduces overall water consumption. Other green features include use of translucent partition panels embedded with wheatgrass and eco-friendly carpeting in shades and pattern of farm fields in the building interior.
