The news follows the go-ahead given by Wolve’s chairman Steve Morgan for phase one of a three-step project to begin in May 2011. Wolves have appointed Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd as the main contractor for £16 million ($26 million) Phase One of redevelopment of the 28,525-seat Molineux stadium.
The first stage will involve a new two-tier stand that extends into the north east open corner, constructed in place of the Stan Cullis Stand, which will increase the capacity to 31,700 in time for the start of the 2012/13 season. It will be funded from the existing cash flow.
If the Club proceeds with Phase Two, the total cost of the project is expected to increase approximately to £40 million ($64 million) with the total capacity of the stadium increasing to around 36,000. The plans for Phase three have not been estimated.
The redevelopment will include a new Club Megastore, museum, Café, a Family Information Centre, pitch facing hospitality facilities (including a flexible 500 plus capacity room) and a larger accessible lounge for disabled supporters.
The design of the stadium is inspired from a 21st Century Molineux respecting the Club’s heritage and also includes details of the Club’s famous old gold and black colours. The renderings include iconic masts as part of the roof design and attractive elevations with internal stairwells exposed to the outside.
Molineux Stadium is a Premier League football stadium situated in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, England. It has been the home ground of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club since 1889.
