Nordic Naturals’ new corporate headquarters in Watsonville is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project. The project is targeting to achieve LEED-Gold certification to become the first green building with this rating in Santa Cruz County. The ribbon cutting ceremony of the new office building will be held on 7 February 2011.
The new headquarters spanning 118,000 square feet comprises 43,000 square feet of corporate offices with the remaining space dedicated to warehousing and wholesaling. The warehouse will initially consist of 44,000 square feet with the remaining square footage to be completed in the second phase of the project.
Norwegian fishing villages has inspired the design of the building’s exterior accentuated by multi-gabled facades and strong colours. The interior of the building has also been designed in line with the same aesthetics. It is highlighted with Norwegian textures and colours featuring splashes of red and blues, with the main colour scheme remaining neutral. Stone and woodwork elements are integrated to signify traditional Norwegian building designs.
According to Joar Opheim, Nordic Naturals Founder and CEO, the design inspiration for the new office building has been derived from his homeland in Norway, where environmental responsibility is in use.
Nordic Naturals partnered with Ausonio Inc., a design/build construction company in Castroville, who won a Tilt-Up Achievement Award for the building. The project management and interior design was completed by Interior Light and Design.
