The new facility is designed to meet the needs of patients undergoing specialized orthopedic surgical procedures that do not require an overnight hospital stay. Designed by Perkins Eastman, the interior reflects the latest thinking in surgical technology and efficient, patient-friendly architectural design.
The reception desk and sunlight-filled family waiting area are just inside the entrance, and nearby is a private pre-operative room, with individual dressing rooms and lockers. Behind automatic sliding-glass doors are four operating rooms, each able to accommodate a large surgical team and state-of-the-art of equipment. The unit features ultrasonic decontamination machines, computerized steam sterilizers for surgical hardware, and carbon dioxide devices for sterilizing more delicate items, such as video equipment.
In addition to special air-filtration systems, the operating rooms are equipped with positive-pressure ventilation, ensuring that air always flows outward, preventing airborne microbes from entering. Each operating room is accessible from both an outside corridor and a shared internal sub-sterile core, where surgical equipment is stored for easy access.
The center will focus on minimally invasive orthopedic procedures including shoulder, elbow and wrist arthroscopies, knee and ankle arthroscopies, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, fracture fixation of extremities and hand surgery.
