WAC has awarded the contract for the new terminal to Broad Construction Services. The new terminal will be adjacent to the airport’s International Terminal. The new terminal is designed by Hassell. The terminal’s developmental work will start in August and is scheduled for a wrap up in December 2012.
The new terminal will have a walk-in landscaped plaza for granting access; a check-in hall that will have 16 counters for check-in and a security screening zone that will lead to the departure lounge. The terminal will have 14 aircraft gates which will feature covered walkways. Along with these, the new terminal will have three large baggage reclaim belts. The terminal will provide easy access to the parking lot, buses and taxi stands for departing and arriving passengers.
The new terminal is a part of $700 million project involving expansion of the International Terminal. The International Terminal expansion project involves development of a new arrivals area and domestic pier, improvised transport connection, enlarged car parking space and increased space for more aircraft. The project is tenured for three years.
