The Kalamazoo research facility is a 780,000 square feet laboratory and office building that houses the world headquarters for two Pfizer animal health divisions – research & development, and genetics.

The renovation took about a year and it includes the completion of empty lab and office space to accommodate the new workers who have been transferred from other company facilities.

The Kalamazoo facility opened in 1886 when W.E. Upjohn started Upjohn Company, which was a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm now owned by Pfizer. About 680 people are now working in the facility following consolidation of researchers from the company’s farm in Richland, a unit in Sandwich, England, and genetic researchers from Louisiana.

Pfizer Incorporated is a major pharmaceutical company, ranking number one in sales in the world. The company is based in New York City, and its research headquarters is in Groton, Connecticut.
