The refurbished station features enhanced seating facilities and additional office area. It is also equipped with several green features like new energy-efficient lighting systems, photovoltaic solar panels, low-flow plumbing fixtures, native landcaping as well as an irrigation system that requires a low amount of water.

The solar panels are expected to result in annual electricity savings of $10,000 to $12,000 while use of upgraded plumbing fixtures will lead to a savings of $1,000 per year. The new landscaping, together with the low-water consuming irrigation system, is expected to cut down water usage by 52% reaping annual savings of about $1,800.

The project also included expansion of the station’s shade area which will now be fitted with fabric and hardcover canopies, ramadas and large trees. The new shade area will also incorporate vertical screens as well as a larger number of water fountains.

Other features of the improved facility include installation of bicycle lockers, extra bike racks, an air hose for tires, and a new signage system with clear signs and an information kiosk. In addition, the facility has also provided a makeover to its old security system.

The project received funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
