Says Tony Robinson of Hepworth: “We are receiving calls from organisations that might previously have not considered plastics based pipe systems but which are attracted to the idea of a lighter weight pipe which does not require additional protection.”

Installation of pipes on steep hillsides potentially poses a number of handling and installation challenges. Manoeuvring heavy iron pipes on mountain tracks can be cumbersome and, once installed, there may be a requirement to provide protection to the pipe walls if ground conditions are ‘aggressive’.

Hep3O can be specified in pressure ratings up to 18 bar, meeting the requirements of many installations designed to route water flows from mountain tops down to the generating house. Diameters up to 630mm are available.

Originally developed for the water supply industry, Hep3O utilises a purpose-designed blend of materials to form a unique plastics alloy (Chlorinated polyethylene, PVC-U and acrylic derivatives) offering significant advantages over more traditional materials. The pipe effectively combines the tough ductile characteristics of polyethylene with the high strength characteristics of PVC-U. The range offers simple, quick and accurate installation by means of integral joints with elastomeric sealing rings.
