The $30 million StarTex Power Field will be designed to have a capacity of 7,500 spectators for baseball games, and 9,500 spectators for concerts. It will be primarily used for baseball and will be the home of the Sugar Land Skeeters in the Atlantic League that will begin play in 2012. The park will also have the ability to host football, soccer, lacrosse, and cheerleading competitions, as well as concerts.

Currently, negotiations on a final cost are underway, with a final decision expected in February 2011. Fourteen companies submitted proposals for the Design/Build contract, with Sugar Land selecting five finalists.

Barton Malow Company’s recent baseball projects include Coolray Field, Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and Goodyear Ballpark. Linbeck is a construction management company offering construction management at-risk, design/build and related construction services.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2011, with a scheduled completion in April 2012.
