Now in its 21st year, the Tile of Spain awards are organised by the Spanish Ceramics Tile Manufacturers’ Association (ASCER) with the aim of encouraging and rewarding the use of Spanish-made ceramics in international projects.
Cash prizes totalling 35,000 euros will be divided between three categories, which will recognise innovation in architecture, interior design and a final degree project by an architecture student.
This year the winners of the two main prizes – architecture and interior design – will each receive 15,000 euros, while the winner of the final degree project will receive 5,000 euros. The awards are sponsored by Endesa, PortValencia, PwC España. They count on the support of Valencia Regional Ministry of Finance.

The panels of judges will comprise some of the world’s most respected architectural and design professionals. British architect Eric Parry will chair this year’s competition. He will be joined by architects Luis Rojo (from Rojo/Fernández-Shaw), Biba Dow (Dow Jones Architecs), José Juan Barba (director of Metalocus) and Ángel Pitarch (chairman of CTAC) as well as interior designer Agnès Blanch (from Estudi Vilablanch).
The jury will meet in November in Castellón. They will be considering high-calibre entries from all over the world.
In last year’s awards, the prize for the architecture category was scooped by MRM Architects’ Studio for the new headquarters of the Valencia Construction Sector Employment Foundation (FLCCV). First prize in the interior design category went to ‘Living in A Coderch’ by Estudio Vilablanch. The Final Degree project was won by Gonzalo López Elorriaga from the Madrid School of Architecture. The proposal was for a leisure and entertainment resort designed to revive a rural setting.
