The new building caters for 420 pupils and 39 nursery places, and is designed to provide extended use of facilities for both the school and the community.

Heckmondwike FB were delighted to be chosen to supply Whitings Hill Primary with 1500m of Supacord Carpet Tiles in Cobalt blue.

James Fletcher from flooring contractor Rees Flooring says “Supacord is ideal for areas of heavy general wear and tear within the school environment so it was the perfect choice for Whitings Hill. Aside from this, the school took advantage of Heckmondwike’s bespoke logo service. The school held a competition for the pupils to design their new school logo, and whichever design won, was put into Heckmondwike’s Diamond Entrance matting. It was a great way for the children to be involved in the school’s development.”

The Architects Co-Partnership who designed the building, chose materials which were hard wearing and attractive, for a building which would be used by hundreds of children every day. As well as looking great, this type of carpet is extremely robust and responds well to the inevitable heavy wear and tear you would typically find in primary schools. The acoustic properties, anti-slip and anti-static properties were all considered in the selection of the materials by the Project Architect, Amal Weerasinha.

Chayne Whittington, Area Manager at Heckmondwike FB, explains: “Whitings Hill is very much a “green” school because it has been designed in a sustainable way, using renewable sources and other energy efficient techniques. Supacord in particular was the perfect choice for this development as it has recently gained an ‘A+’ rating from the Building Research Establishment (BRE) for education buildings, which strengthens its position as one of the most environmentally responsible floorcoverings available.
