More than 500m2 of the fibre bonded commercial carpet tiles were installed throughout the stairs, corridors and gym. With a high level of foot traffic within these busy circulation areas, the flooring specification called for a robust, long-lasting product that would not wear or fray. Having worked with Heckmondwike’s products on many previous occasions, flooring contractor Chaz Fearnley, from Cutting Edge Flooring, had no hesitation in suggesting the company’s Momentum tiles as the ideal solution.
“The client’s requirements were quite specific, with durability, appearance and value for money being the main considerations,” comments Chaz. “I’ve worked with Heckmondwike for a long time, so I knew I could recommend their visually appealing, high-performance and cost-effective carpets with complete confidence. In this particular instance, we decided to use the tile format rather than sheet, as it meant the client will be able to easily replace tiles in the highest use areas – such as around the gym equipment – when required, offering greater flexibility over the long term.”

In addition, the antistatic and anti-slip tiles offered increased safety protection for the leisure centre users, as well as delivering excellent acoustic performance to minimise noise pollution from the gym equipment.
When it came to selecting the colourway, the client left the choice up to the leisure centre members – putting it to a vote on the top three options. Comprising a rich mix of tonal blue shades and yellow accents, the Sapphire colourway was an obvious winner, with the finished installation meeting approval all round.
