The Wellington Velour tiles, manufactured at Heckmondwike’s Yorkshire site, were chosen due to their hardwearing performance and propensity for simple, cost effective replacement of damaged tiles. An eye-catching petrol blue finish was selected for key areas of the museum, such as the area surrounding the ever popular Lancaster Bomber display.

Made from 100% polypropylene, the Wellington Velour range will not ravel or fray. Alongside this, the range’s antistatic and anti-slip performance make them ideal for any area where public health and safety is paramount.

The museum has trusted Heckmondwike to provide its flooring solutions for some time, with the Wellington Velour range used extensively throughout the site in its carpet form. However, as part of the recent refresh, the decision was made to use carpet tiles, providing maximum flexibility and easing the process of replacement should tiles becoming damaged – a key consideration given the size of some of the pieces housed in the museum, which changes exhibitions periodically.

Abby Chandler, Marketing Manager at Heckmondwike, said: “We’re delighted to once again partner with the RAF Museum London to provide a flooring solution that is both attractive and practical. The Wellington Velour tile range was the obvious choice for the job, providing a hard wearing surface that will stand the test of time, and the footsteps of thousands of visitors.”

Brett Roberts of Brent Carpet Company ltd, said: “The task at RAF Museum London was extremely challenging, with more than 600 metres of tiles to be installed while the museum remained open. While the museum was extremely happy with the Heckmondwike carpets that were in place, they were due for a refresh after being in place for more than ten years. The RAF Museum London sees thousands of visitors pass through each year, and we’re confident that Heckmondwike’s products are the ideal solution for the task of coping with their footfall.”
