cdw 2017

Taking an exposing look at the true wants and needs of the workforce, Desso and Tarkett will challenge the architectural and design community to consider the different – and often conflicting – modes, styles, personalities and preferences of space users: by first encouraging festivalgoers to ‘find themselves’.

Multi-talented designer Kia Utzon-Frank has been commissioned to capture the ‘Reflections’ theme with an intriguing window installation and exhibition using her acclaimed patented Twisting Comb (KUFtwist), made in collaboration with textile designer Fay McCaul. The beautiful, colour changing, reflective structure is entirely defined by the end-user and the incoming light.

Other ‘theatre’ throughout Desso and Tarkett’s stand-out CDW17 presence at 23-25 Great Sutton Street, will include:

  • What’s next? …Exploring a creative new future for lighting – Philips Lighting discusses the near future where the concepts of light bulbs and lamps disappear into architectural surfaces (Tuesday 23rd May)
  • The Effect of Colour in the Workplace – a presentation from colour experts Pantone (Tuesday 23rd May)
  • A ‘Colourful People’ Workshop – do you love the limelight or do you chase the ‘big idea’? Are you ‘Miss Dolly Detail’ – or the one who just wants everyone to get along? This is a chance to explore the personalities and working styles at play in the office for better self-awareness, team work – and a bit of fun (Wednesday 24th May)
  • ‘Designing for Wellbeing in the Workplace’ – how can designers create workplaces for conflicting modes and needs? An informal discussion on this industry hot topic led by design journalist Katie Treggiden, along with VIP guest speakers. (Thursday 25th May)

Trevor Flynn from Drawing at Work returns on Wednesday (24th May) – inviting attendees to get in touch with their creativity and reflect on their surroundings in his popular drawing master class.
