The vastly experienced engineering and design team have overcome many challenges over the years, helping to achieve exactly what the client requires. Despite all this experience sometimes a job comes along which stands out and presents the team with a real challenge.
This project was a particularly testing one for the engineering design team, but the end result is something they can be justly proud of. They not only look amazing, but they involved many production and technical challenges along the way. These challenges tested every one of our engineering, design and manufacturing departments, all of which rose to the challenge and helped create a beautiful end product.
The client supplied a plastic screwless plate design for one particular product on their project, which had been specified by their design team, and they approached Focus SB with a view to replacing the plastic plate with a high quality metal one, finished in a Black Nickel finish. After several design iterations and samples produced by Focus SB, the client decided to commission Focus SB to provide all of the electrical, AV and communications plates in the same design. The final design involved the use of a CNC milling machine to form the base plates from a solid slab of brass, these base plates also needed counter sunk recesses to accept small magnets, which are fixed to the front plate, to hold the front plate on with no visible fixings. The tolerances were extremely tight and all processes needed optimum precision, to ensure a perfect fit with no visible gaps. Finally they were finished in a highly polished Black Nickel, which is available from Focus SB as a special order only.
